Residential Program

An immersive Shiatsu learning experience in the heart of Costa Rica

Our Residential Program is designed especially for students who don’t live in Costa Rica but wish to study Shiatsu in an inspiring, retreat-style environment. The curriculum is delivered in three concentrated blocks for deep focus and full immersion.

Set in one of the most beautiful regions of Costa Rica, this program lets you combine a transformative learning experience with the trip of a lifetime — surrounded by tropical beaches, lush rainforest, and a vibrant local culture. It’s the perfect way to grow your skills while enjoying the natural wonders of this incredible destination.

What’s Included

Learning Environment​

 

The program takes place at one of our partner retreat centers in Uvita, surrounded by lush rainforest, flowing waterfalls, and the Pacific Ocean. This serene and inspiring setting provides the perfect atmosphere for deep learning and personal transformation.

For those who wish to stay on-site, we offer the option to book accommodation and dinners at the same retreat center. This allows students to fully immerse themselves in the experience — focusing on their studies, connecting with classmates, and exploring the natural beauty of Costa Rica.

Diploma

Students who complete the program requirements will receive a Shiatsu Practitioner Dimploma from Shiatsu Academy CR, recognizing 480 hours of combined theoretical and practical training. Diploma is aligned with the Shiatsu Society UK requirements.

Afternoon Revision of all meridian locations and points. Advanced techniques: Chest, Neck, Shoulder, Head, Jaw. Day Morning HOM Free session and swap. Ear acupuncture. Forum on philosophical concepts in Chinese medicine, Afternoon HOM Cupping Free massage including advanced techniques and swap. Approach to back pain and sciatica, neck, shoulders, stomach, bowel, insomnia, and common ailment. Day 20 Morning HOM Cupping - moxa - ear acupuncture Forum Q&A Blind Shiatsu Free supervised treatment Afternoon Client approach simulation Treatment with advanced techniques (body realignment) End of Level 2 2 months break. During the break of 2 months students are expected to practise with several people. They need to complete them homework of 50+ certified treatments and the 4 case histories. Who is late with the Anatomy and Physiology homework has this opportunity to finish the work. At this stage students can perform a good treatment and they can charge, I will suggest half of the normal price, so they can build up a solid clientele. Do not do therapy and avoid getting involved in situations that you don’t know how to deal with. It's better to be honest and renounce a client rather than ruin your reputation. Remember that you're still learning. When we resume the classes after 2 months, we will learn all about therapy, we will explore all the techniques and get familiar with the advanced techniques to perform real practice. Level 3 - 10 lessons - 8 hs per lesson – Total: 80 hs Third 2 weeks block, Monday to Friday Day 22 Morning HOM Forum and Q&A. Free advanced techniques massage and swap. Common ailment mock demo. (Students bring topic to be dealt with) Afternoon Yoga Free treatment on demand (the recipient will ask what s(h)e wants to be treated and the partitioner will perform, There will be an evaluation from the receiver. Moxibustion and ear acupuncture. Swap Day 22 Morning Yoga Revision of zen meridians. Forum, Free treatment according to the diagnosis and swap (use advanced techniques). Mock professional welcoming and session: how to receive a client. Afternoon HOM, Massage with oil: incorporate the Shiatsu base techniques with other styles using oil on the skin as a relaxing massage plus the use of oil for sciatica. Revision of acupuncture points, location, and functions. Day 23 Morning Yoga. Full body treatment performing the techniques which are more difficult to you with supervising, exploring them, and seeking help. Forum. Performing a treatment using all tools, Moxa, Acupuncture, Dietary suggestions, etc. Afternoon Harmony of Movement Full body treatment using the appropriate techniques for the recipient (Include advanced techniques). Revision of the classical meridians and how to treat them. Day 24 Morning Meridian stretch Pregnancy theory - do and don’t - Pregnancy Massage techniques - Practice. Afternoon Meridian stretch. General evaluation on practice: Flow, Perpendicular pressure, Intention, Connection, Breathing techniques. Students evaluate students. Advanced techniques: hip, sacrum Q&A Day 25 Morning Salutation to the sun. Bring a person with you to treat Change person Afternoon Diagnosis cross reference (pulse, face, tongue, hara, back, Yin-Yang, 5 Elements) Treatment according to the diagnosis.
